JOB SUMMARY

The Field Operations Intern supports the Field Operations team by assisting with daily packinghouse, field, quality, and operational activities. This position provides students with hands-on experience in agricultural operations, fresh produce supply chain management, food safety, quality assurance, inventory management, and production processes. The intern will work closely with field personnel and operations leadership to gain exposure to the avocado industry while contributing to the efficient movement of product from harvest through packing and distribution.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Assist with monitoring incoming fruit quality, condition, and maturity.

•    Support field personnel in collecting and documenting crop and harvest information.

•    Assist with receiving, grading, sorting, and inventory tracking processes within the packinghouse.

•    Participate in daily operational activities supporting production and shipping requirements.

•    Assist with maintaining harvest, inventory, and operational records.

•    Collect and organize production and quality-related data for reporting purposes.

•    Support inventory reconciliation and product tracking activities.

•    Assist in identifying operational efficiencies and process improvement opportunities.

•    Participate in food safety, quality assurance, and sanitation initiatives.

•    Observe and assist with grower, ranch, and field visits as assigned.

•    Support special projects related to field operations, logistics, quality, and production.

•    Attend operational meetings and assist with preparation of reports and presentations.

•    Comply with all company safety, food safety, quality, and workplace policies.

•    Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling company information.

•    Perform other duties as assigned.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

•    Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or technical program.

•    Pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Business, Food Science, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.

•    Minimum GPA of 2.5 preferred.

•    Ability to work flexible hours during peak operational periods.

•    Ability to work in both office and production environments.

•    Must be authorized to work in the United States.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

•    Strong interest in agricultural operations and fresh produce supply chains.

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•    Strong organizational and time management abilities.

•    Ability to analyze information and solve problems.

•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.

•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•    Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

•    Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

•    Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

•    Demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and a willingness to learn.



WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands to handle objects and operate standard office equipment. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods while completing administrative tasks. Work may be performed in office, packinghouse, warehouse, and outdoor field environments. The employee may be exposed to varying temperatures, including refrigerated and warm production areas, moving machinery, forklifts, and agricultural products. The employee may occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
