Job Description

Job Type: Part Time, Non Exempt (Summer Intern)

Hours Per Week: 30 hours

Internship Length: 10 weeks

Pay: $20.00/hour

Physical Setting/work location: In-Office

Vorbeck is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Testing Intern to support the preparation, testing, and evaluation of our UL-162 firefighting foam product line. This internship provides hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment to test and analyze next-generation PFAS-free firefighting foams. Interns will assist with experiments, performance testing, data collection, and documentation while working closely with our technical team.

Foam Testing & Performance Evaluation

  • Assist with foam expansion, drainage, and performance testing
  • Observe and assist with product performance demonstrations and testing events
  • Help compare test results across different foam formulations

Materials Preparation

  • Assist with measuring and mixing chemical components used in foam formulations
  • Prepare testing samples according to established procedures
  • Label, store, and organize samples and test materials

Equipment & Lab Operations

  • Assist with basic lab equipment setup and calibration
  • Help maintain laboratory supplies and testing materials inventory
  • Support routine equipment cleaning and maintenance

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist with organizing and analyzing test data
  • Support preparation of internal summaries or test reports
  • Help compile results for product development or certification testing

Problem Solving & Critical Thinking

  • Assist with troubleshooting laboratory tests and experimental setups
  • Observe testing outcomes and help identify potential improvements to procedures or materials
  • Apply critical thinking skills to support ongoing research and development activities

Additional Duties

  • Support general updates to the building and facility, which may include tasks like painting, moving equipment or furniture, organizing spaces, and assisting with other projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, or a related technical field; preference given to junior and senior undergraduate students

Preferred Experience

  • Prior laboratory coursework or hands-on lab experience preferred
  • Experience following laboratory procedures and safety protocols is a plus

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting laboratory tests
  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
