Position Summary

The Design Intern will design visually compelling materials that support VGM’s marketing, branding, and event initiatives. During the internship, you will create digital and print assets – including social media graphics, presentations, brochures, flyers, and event signage – while contributing creative ideas and executing design concepts.

Reporting to: Sr. Director of Marketing and Branding Strategy

Working Location: On-Site in Waterloo, Iowa

Work Hours Classification: Part-time, Monday-Friday, 25 hours per week, additional hours based on business needs for a 3-month duration

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and design visual assets for digital and print media, including social media graphics, presentations, flyers, brochures, and signage 
  • Brainstorm, conceptualize, and execute ideas for marketing and design projects
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite or similar software to create and edit design projects effectively 
  • Provide design and production support for Heartland Conference 
  • Assist with design-related tasks for VGMAF marketing and branding projects 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to ensure brand consistency and alignment with project initiatives 
  • Participate in feedback sessions and incorporate revisions based on team input 
  • Prepare files for printing and production, finalizing materials for use at events 
  • Assist in the maintenance of new marketing collateral, maintaining design standards and brand guidelines 
  • Maintain and track marketing projects with mindfulness to priorities against higher-level marketing and brand strategy 
  • Maintain a positive, results oriented work environment, building partnerships and modelling teamwork, communicating to others in an open, balanced and objective manner 
  • Perform other tasks and complete projects as assigned by leadership 

Key Qualifications

  • Highly preferred a junior or senior standing student with educational emphasis in Marketing and/or Business. 
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite for design projects 
  • Working knowledge of Excel and relevant software such as MS-office: Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Exemplary interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple, potentially conflicting deadlines with attention to detail and within agreed timelines 
  • Shows commitment to and performs consistently high-quality work

Physical Requirements:  

  • Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment        
  • Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision  
  • Sitting for long periods of time 
  • Moving throughout the VGM facilities when needed
