The Experience
Intern – Cybersecurity
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Cybersecurity Intern who is excited about cybersecurity, compliance, and protecting business systems and data. This internship is ideal for a student seeking hands-on experience supporting real-world cybersecurity initiatives, compliance programs, and technical documentation within a manufacturing and defense-related business environment.
This role will support Bishop-Wisecarver’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 Readiness Program and provide exposure to cybersecurity operations, risk assessment, compliance frameworks, and technical controls aligned with NIST SP 800-171.
What you’ll do (individual projects assigned by BW)
- Support cybersecurity and compliance initiatives related to CMMC Level 2 readiness
- Assist with documentation reviews, policy updates, and cybersecurity evidence collection
- Help organize and maintain compliance artifacts, gap analysis reports, and control tracking documentation
- Participate in system and security assessments aligned with NIST SP 800-171 requirements
- Assist with access control reviews, MFA validation, audit log verification, and technical control documentation
- Support incident response preparedness activities, tabletop exercises, and governance documentation
- Help document external system connections, security procedures, and operational workflows
- Research cybersecurity best practices, emerging threats, and compliance requirements relevant to manufacturing and defense industries
- Assist Technology Services Group (TSG) with cybersecurity-related projects and process improvements
What we’re looking for
- Strong interest in cybersecurity, information security, or compliance
- Basic technical aptitude and willingness to learn cybersecurity concepts quickly
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially
- Interest in cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, CMMC, or general IT governance
- Curious, proactive, and eager to learn in a hands-on environment
- Strong written communication and documentation skills
Nice to have
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools, IT systems, or networking concepts
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, MFA, or endpoint security tools
- Basic understanding of compliance frameworks such as NIST SP 800-171 or CMMC
- Experience with spreadsheets, documentation tracking, or technical writing
- Coursework or certifications related to cybersecurity, IT, networking, or information systems
- Basic understanding of security concepts such as access control, audit logging, or incident response
