Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Quality Laboratory Tech Internship is an opportunity for current students or recent graduates to gain valuable experience via supervised, hands-on learning in a professional setting. The Lab Tech Interns will perform sample preparation and various sample tests including, but not limited to, identity tests using spectrophotomers , HPLCs, and FT-NIR. The Lab Tech Interns will also perform stability tests such as water activity, and general laboratory analyses using equipment such as the Karl Fischer titrator and density meters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs identity testing using the UV/Vis, FT-NIR or HPLC instruments
  • Performs water activity, loss on drying (LoD), Karl Fischer, density and % alcohol tests
  • Prepares (extracts) and delivers samples to the QC Associates and Analysts for further analyses (HPLC, ICP-MS, GC-MS/MS and UV/Vis)
  • Ensures that the documentation of work in personal notebooks and/or general laboratory logbooks is compliant with cGMP regulations
  • Maintains general laboratory solvents and reagents
  • Maintains general laboratory cleanliness

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability to read, comprehend and execute complex instructions, test methods, and standard operating procedures
  • Skilled in common laboratory practices such as pipetting, weighing and sample dilution
  • Ability to write experimental details in a technical manner and to summarize results
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • knowledgeable of cGMP documentation requirements
  • Ability to provide instructions and training

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, talk or hear. WORK ENVIRONMENT


The employee in this position primarily works in a laboratory environment. They will occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals, solvents and microorganisms. Hazards include flammable and corrosive solvents as well as potentially toxic reagents and solvents. Additionally, the microbiology laboratory may contain biosafety level 2 (BSL2) microorganism strains. The employee will be required to use extraction equipment which generates elevated levels of noise. The employee may infrequently pass through the manufacturing plant, where they would be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
