Physician Assistant Intern - Trauma Surgery

The Physician Assistant Intern, under the direct supervision of the APP or Physician, will assist the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma Surgery in a variety of clinical duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Respond to trauma activations and see new emergency department and floor consults under the direct supervision of the APP or Physician
• Round on inpatients under the direct supervision of the APP or Physician
• Review laboratory and imaging results in consultation with the APP or Physician
• Develop and manage treatment plans for surgical patients of varying acuity levels under the direct supervision of the APP or Physician.
• Write H&P, consult, and progress notes that will be and co-signed by the APP or Physician
• The Physician Assistant Intern will not perform any duty of any kind without direct supervision by the APP or Physician, and will not place any orders or perform any procedures until they are fully licensed and credentialed to practice as a Physician Assistant
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master’s degree in appropriate field
• License and/or Certification: 
  1. BLS Certified
  2. Eligible/In process to obtain licensure in OH as a Physician Assistant 
  3. Eligible/In process to obtain COA from the Ohio State Medical Board to practice as a PA
  4. Eligible/In process to obtain a Certificate to Prescribe/DEA

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Tolerate busy environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians. 
• Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds.
• Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds required. 
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.
• Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: Personal computer, fax machines, copiers, telephones
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis.
• Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations.
