About the Role:
The Operations and Engineering Intern will work various aspects related to the manufacturing of specimen collection devices. The intern will be tasked with helping to ensure products are designed, developed, and manufactured to a set of standards and specifications meeting customer expectations and continuously improving operational performance. Duties include identifying improvements throughout the manufacturing process to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase overall efficiency. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineering Intern will collaborate with various quality and engineering teams to establish procedures, design, and conduct inspections and tests, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions to optimize production processes
This position will be primarily located at one of our production locations in Guilford, ME and Pittsfield, ME.Â
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
- Documents the manufacturing process for various types of applicator manufacturing
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by Identifying and documenting gaps in the current process
- Investigates and identifies root causes of product defects or manufacturing issues by analyzing data, conducting experiments, and utilizing problem-solving techniques to determine the underlying reasons and implement effective corrective actions
- Maintains accurate documentation of manufacturing processes, work instructions, product specifications and related engineering documents in accordance with industry regulations, ISO standards, and customer requirements
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Working towards an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Strong computer, analytical, and organizational skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong attention to details
- Self-starter: ability to work with limited guidance
- Experience with SolidWorks (preferred) or other CAD software a plus
- Manufacturing experience a plus
- Experience with Visual Basic, Access Databases, and/or Epicor MRP system a plus
- Experience with Six Sigma, Lean initiatives, & Minitab a plus
