Internship Summary:

The Maintenance & Grounds Intern plays a hands‑on role in ensuring our campus remains welcoming, functional, and beautiful for all who serve and visit. This intern supports multiple operational teams and gains experience across facilities care, preventative maintenance, groundskeeping, and event setup. Each day brings new and meaningful tasks that directly keep our community running smoothly—perfect for someone who enjoys physical work, problem‑solving, and learning practical, real‑world skills in a mission‑driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain campus buildings and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and excellent environment for staff and guests.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks, small repairs, and general facilities upkeep.
  • Support grounds care, including mowing, trimming, planting, and seasonal landscape maintenance.
  • Help set up and take down equipment for campus events and gatherings.
  • Participate in occasional custodial tasks such as cleaning, organizing, and preparing shared spaces.
  • Adapt to day‑to‑day needs, as responsibilities may vary depending on ongoing campus projects.

Qualifications:

  • Alignment with Pioneers’ mission and values.
  • Interest in facilities, maintenance, construction, landscaping, or related hands‑on fields.
  • Helpful (but not required) experience in grounds care, agriculture/farming, lawn or home maintenance, landscaping, or construction.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and engage in physical tasks.
  • Dependable, punctual, and eager to learn new skills.
  • Positive attitude and readiness to contribute to a mission‑focused community.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand for a minimum of 4 hours
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to work in varying climate conditions, including working in extreme heat conditions, extreme cold weather conditions, and during precipitation
  • Crouching, bending, stooping, crawling, digging, climbing, running, jumping, walking, sawing
  • Use of varying maintenance, kitchen and office equipment including but not limited to, power tools, pressure washers, and cleaners

Internship Program Expectations

  • May 26 – July 31
  • 10 weeks in Orlando, FL serving the US-Mobilization Base.
  • 30 hours per week
    • This is an unpaid internship
  • Housing is provided by the program
  • Interns must provide their own transportation to and from the office

  • Intern Debrief/Final Week
  • 6 hours of in-person coaching over the course of the internship
