Queen's Journal First-Year Intern
Job summary
The First-Year Intern position gives first-year students the opportunity to gain hands-on journalism experience at The Queen’s Journal. Interns will contribute to every section of The Journal through a weekly rotation, excluding opinions, allowing them to develop their reporting and writing skills across a variety of coverage areas. Interns may also contribute to multimedia projects based on their interests.

Job Duties
Write a minimum of one story per week
Contribute stories to each section of The Journal
Develop story ideas with editors
Conduct interviews and research for assigned stories
Work collaboratively with section editors throughout the internship
Meet deadlines and maintain communication
Follow The Journal’s editorial, ethical, and style standards
Attend required meetings and training
Complete other job duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Must be a first-year Queen’s University student
Ability to meet deadlines and manage responsibilities
Ability to commit at least one story per week

Work Conditions
Regular interaction with Journal editors, interview subjects, and members of the Queen’s and Kingston communities. The position involves independent reporting, interviewing, writing, editing, and collaboration with multiple sections of The Journal.
