The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Intern - Survey to join our New Albany, IN office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a college student interested in gaining hands-on experience in land surveying and infrastructure projects. You will work alongside experienced survey professionals while applying classroom knowledge in a real-world environment and developing practical field and technical skills.

Throughout the internship, you will gain exposure to topographic mapping, boundary surveys, construction layout, and subsurface utility exploration (SUE) while learning how survey teams support engineering and infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Do:

As a Intern - Survey, you will work alongside our field survey team to collect accurate field data and support a variety of surveying assignments.

You will learn to use professional survey equipment, assist with field measurements and data collection, help maintain equipment and supplies, and gain an understanding of survey procedures, safety requirements, and project workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist survey crews with field data collection for topographic, boundary, construction layout, and subsurface utility exploration (SUE) projects.
  • Learn to operate and properly care for survey equipment, tools, and related technology.
  • Participate in daily project briefings and communicate field observations, project conditions, or concerns to the crew leader.
  • Assist with survey data management, computer transfers, and organization of field information.
  • Help prepare survey vehicles and equipment for daily field activities, including loading, unloading, charging, maintaining, and restocking equipment and supplies.
  • Complete required safety training and follow established field procedures, safety standards, and company protocols.

What You’ll Bring:

  • High school diploma or GED and current enrollment in a college or university surveying or related program.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Interest in land surveying and a willingness to learn survey equipment, field procedures, and data collection techniques; previous equipment experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic maps and plans and perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications, along with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork on uneven terrain, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and safely carry field equipment weighing approximately 50–70 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for out-of-town project assignments, typically up to 2–3 weeks, as project needs require.
