Position Summary:

The Front Desk Float Intern is an entry-level opportunity designed for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in healthcare administration, customer service, and office operations within a nonprofit community healthcare organization. This role provides practical training and work experience while supporting front desk operations across multiple clinic or office locations as needed.

The intern will work closely with front office staff and leadership to learn patient service procedures, administrative responsibilities, and professional workplace expectations in a healthcare setting. No prior healthcare or office experience is required; training will be provided.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and welcoming manner 
  • Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures 
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls 
  • Schedule, confirm, and update patient appointments 
  • Assist with maintaining accurate patient and office records 
  • Support scanning, filing, and document organization tasks 
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and professional front desk areas 
  • Provide administrative support to clinic and office staff as assigned 
  • Float between departments or clinic locations based on operational needs 
  • Respond professionally to patient questions and requests 
  • Assist with data entry and general clerical duties 
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines 
  • Participate in training sessions, team meetings, and professional development opportunities 
  • Perform other administrative support duties as assigned

Qualifications

No prior healthcare or office experience is required. Training and mentorship will be provided throughout the internship.

  • High school diploma, GED, or currently enrolled in a high school, college, or vocational program 
  • Interest in healthcare administration, nonprofit work, customer service, or office operations 
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality 
  • Dependable attendance and flexibility to work at different office or clinic locations as needed 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

Physical Demands:

  • May sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction device(s)
  • Dexterity and hand to eye coordination as normally associated with operating office equipment, computers and telephones
