We have an opening for an Engineering Intern to join our team. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Summer Intern to join our Engineering team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while working on exciting projects alongside experienced professionals.


About Freshpack: Freshpack is a locally owned custom cheese packaging company that develops and innovates cheese products and packaging. Our products can be found in all 50 states and in most major retailers. Over the past 25 years, our team has grown from 15 to 290+ employees. It is an exciting time to join our team, as we are poised for substantial growth over the next 3-5 years.


 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and commissioning of new equipment and systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with the engineering department to increase safety, optimize manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste.
  • Participate in safety audits and initiatives to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Engage in cross-functional teamwork, attending meetings, and presenting findings or project updates.
  • Adhere to all company guidelines, protocols, and safety standards while performing duties.
Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical skills, with a keen interest in manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor or similar).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective communication
  • Completed at least two years of coursework by the start of the internship. (flexible)
  • Familiarity with basic tools and equipment used in maintenance and engineering activities.

Design/Innovation Projects

  • Design an Auto-tensioning mechanism for traditional harp cutters.
  • Create engineering work packages for production equipment upgrades.
  • Design modifications for a cheese conveyor.
  • Sound dampening on existing equipment for employee safety and comfort.
  • Upgrade or replace designs for package denesters
  • Organize existing projects

Maintenance Projects

  • Asset labeling with QR codes for easier identification
  • Assist with PM creation and updating
Salary Description
$20.00/hour
