Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking an intern to join our team for the summer of 2026. You will work with a dynamic team of industry-leading professionals supporting a diverse portfolio of hazard mitigation, natural disaster recovery, policy, and resilience planning projects with FEMA and local, state or industrial clients. In this role, you will assist our team with various projects and tasks, including research, data collection, and data analysis.
Under the direction of engineering and planning management staff, this position will:
Support developing options and analysis papers, fact sheets, and other internal and external-facing documents.
Support data evaluation tasks to develop program efficiencies and improvements.
Use Benefit-Cost Analysis tools.
Prepare analysis, summaries, and presentation material based on the above tasks.
Support the implementation of hazard mitigation, disaster recovery and resilience planning programs for FEMA, state, and local clients.
Perform data analysis, use of GIS Systems, and other ad-hoc assignments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in Bachelors or Masters program.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a FEMA badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
The ideal candidate for this position is Planning, Emergency Management, Policy, Engineering or Science student.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information
CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as “CDM Smith”) reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. Additional Compensation
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.

Please note that pay ranges vary based on geographic location. In addition to geographic location, the company considers several other factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training and key skills.
