Job Title: Boys Cross Country Coach (All Grades)
Effective Date: June, 2025 until filled
Reports To: Principal (Principal Designee)/Athletic Director
Stipend: $3,213.00
General Responsibilities
Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in meets/game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competitions. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.
Essential Duties

Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
Assesses student’s skills and assigns team positions.
Adequate use of training time by establishing a regular practice schedule, incorporating routines and meaningful drills designed to maximize individual and team development based on skill assessment.
Collaborates with the athletics director in scheduling parent/guardian preseason meetings, facilities for practices and competitions, and rescheduling of meets/games.
Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
Coaches and instructs students, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Observes students, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team
improvement. Provides verbal and/or physical demonstrations to teach proper skills and corrects observed improper techniques of student athletes. Ability to lead a practice independently, designing specific drills to maximize skill levels of individual athletes.
Determines meets/game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
Establishes and maintains high-level standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times including practices.
Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their students, and establishes an ongoing communication system to inform parent/guardians of needs/updates related to the sport.
Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators while instilling a competitive spirit.
Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
Follows WSC bylaws and abides by conference demands, including but not limited to updating contest scores timely, timely communication with game day text threads, inputting rosters, providing ref check/voucher as needed, and informing parents/guardians of athletic events that charge an entrance fee.

Additional Staff Responsibilities
Attend periodic Athletic Department Meetings.
Assist Athletic Director and other staff with event set up and clean up.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
CPR/first aid trained
High school (or higher level) playing/coaching experience, excellent communication and organization skills. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills to provide constructive feedback during practice and competition. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must be able to plan and independently lead effective practices and warm-ups associated with the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. Must be able to perform duties indoors and outdoors with exposure to inclement weather.
