The Black Community Fund’s mission is to provide support and leadership to enhance socio-economic aspects of African American communities in the Greater Kansas City area. The Black Community Fund is currently seeking an intern to assist the fund with communications, event coordination and administration.


This position has primary responsibilities to support BCF to achieve the mission of elevating the Black community through scholarships, grantmaking and educational programming. This person would assist the Black Community Fund team with internal and external communications and marketing efforts, including advertising, media relations, donor outreach, online presence, collateral development, and special events. Ideally, this person would be able to assist with communications (case studies, blog posts, newsletters) tailored to our audience, as well as administrative functions.

Requirements
  • This position is highly collaborative and communicative, so the ability to communicate (verbal and written) accurate and clear messages regarding business-related matters is vital. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong social media skills including messaging and engagement on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. This includes strong writing skills and the ability to create social media graphics for each platform.
  • This position requires quick responsiveness to other colleagues, board members, potential funders, and donors. Maintain contact with funders and other duties around Donor stewardship and cultivation.
  • Record and prepare minutes for all BCF Board and committee meetings when necessary.
  • Conduct other administrative support as assigned including copying; filing; mailing; scheduling; preparing meeting rooms, and database entry.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or deemed necessary.

Qualifications:

  • This person must possess a passion and strong commitment to the Black community.
  • This person must have a high commitment to equity and be in proximity to the needs of the Black community. 
  • Possess the ability to encourage collaboration with individuals from diverse cultural, generational, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be intellectually curious and seek feedback.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products. 
  • Strong writing, proofing, and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • This position has flexible hours (minimum of 10 hours/week) during normal business hours over the summer break season (June – August). 
  • This person must be agile, kind, and efficient, and operate independently and collaboratively in a manner consistent with the values of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.

Physical Requirements:


Must be able to regularly complete tasks at a computer terminal while sitting for long periods of time. Required to communicate and interpret detailed information orally. Employee is required to have visual acuity to properly prepare and analyze assigned work. Employee will need to be flexible and able to work remotely because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but be able to navigate frequent interruptions and maintain a fast work pace.
