Job Title: Pima County Career Pathways Exploration Program Intern
Location: Wrightson Ridge School, Sahuarita School District
Wage: $17.00 per hour/part-time
Please note: This position is only available to active and enrolled Pima Community College students with work authorization status.
SYSNOPSIS:
The teaching staff at Wrightson Ridge School, Sahuarita School District, is eager to add the Pima County Career Pathways Exploration Program to the current school curriculum. In order to incorporate the program into the curriculum, the teaching staff requests assistance from Pima Community College by providing “interns” to assist the local advisors (teachers) with the program Initiation.
Details:
The implementation of the Pima County Career Pathways Exploration Program requires assistance from Pima Community College “interns”. The “interns” must possess certain criteria which enables them to communicate effectively with middle school students. Preferred characteristics are as follows:
- Empathetic and Patient - It is critical that advisors can work with children that have behavior, emotional, or learning disabilities.
- Building Trust and Relationships - It is empirical to gain the trust of the students and build relationships so they will be willing to learn the material presented.
- Adaptability - Due to ever changing conditions in the classroom, being able to change the delivery of the material to meet the needs of the students is crucial.
- Eager to Assist - The willingness of the “interns” to recognize the need to assist either the teacher or the student is important as many students resist asking for assistance or clarification on their own. The ability to initiate the conversation with the students opens up the dialogue with a student who may otherwise sit silent.
- Organization - Organization is crucial to maintain order and flow in the classroom Environment.
- Able to Collaborate - Must be able to collaborate with the classroom teacher so a consistent coherent message is presented to the students.
- Subject Matter Experts - It is of great benefit if each “intern” for a specific subject is qualified to teach the material at the middle school level. Examples would be a science teacher knowledgeable in middle school science lessons. Mathematics “intern” able to teach math at middle school or possibly high school freshman level. A social studies “intern” equipped to teach economics, civics, and government. It is desirable if all “interns” are knowledgeable in all of the latest technology used in the classroom.
The teaching staff at Wrightson Ridge School is excited to implement the Pima County Career Pathways Exploration Program. With the assistance of the “interns” from Pima Community College, a formidable team will be created to address the challenges faced by students to become productive in an ever changing world. The students’ success is our success.
This position will require additional screening including obtaining a fingerprint clearance card or completing Sahuarita School District background check with fingerprints.
