Technology Support Intern

Position Description

The Boston Public Schools Office of Technology is seeking motivated individuals currently participating in the Catholic Charities Boston – El Centro IT Program to join our Information Technology Support Internship.

This paid internship provides participants with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting the technology used by students, educators, and staff across one of the nation's largest urban school districts. Working alongside experienced technology professionals, interns will develop practical technical skills, strengthen their customer service abilities, and gain valuable experience in a collaborative enterprise IT environment.

This internship is made possible through a mini-grant provided by Catholic Charities Boston and is exclusively available to participants enrolled in the Catholic Charities Boston – El Centro IT Program.

Internship Details

  • Duration: Up to 26 weeks
  • Schedule: Up to 35 hours per week
  • Work Location: Boston Public Schools Office of Technology, Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA 02119.Β Β 
  • Supervision: Director of Technology Service Delivery, Office of Technology.

Essential Functions

Under the guidance of the Office of Technology, interns will:

  • Assist with the deployment, setup, maintenance, and replacement of desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, interactive displays, and other technology equipment.
  • Image, configure, and prepare devices for deployment to schools and administrative offices.
  • Install operating systems, software applications, updates, and security patches.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, printers, peripherals, and connectivity issues.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused technical support to Boston Public Schools staff.
  • Assist with inventory management, asset tracking, and equipment organization.
  • Learn and utilize enterprise device management and support tools.
  • Research technical issues and assist with identifying solutions.
  • Participate in technology projects and special assignments as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • Current participation in the Catholic Charities Boston – El Centro IT Program.
  • An interest in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Basic familiarity with Windows and/or macOS operating systems.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • English proficiency appropriate for a professional work environment.
  • The ability to lift and move technology equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, with reasonable accommodation provided as appropriate.
