The Navigation and Sensor Systems business in Cedar Rapids, IA is a growing business area developing the next generation of advanced military Global Positioning Systems (GPS) products. The Internal Tools team within the business is a cross-functional team supporting BAE’s mission by developing innovative software tools to aid business applications and processes. Our goal is to innovate the way we work by increasing efficiency and productivity.
Internship Summary:
In this position, you’ll be an active member of the Internal Tools team and work on projects that individuals across the business benefit from. Opportunities may include:
Write custom software to bring enhancements to our current toolset
Architect and develop brand new software solutions
Design custom scripts and batch files that interact with current business systems
Capture technical requirements for new products based on customer needs
Design software test cases to ensure low rates of defect introduction
Provide general support on products within the team’s management
Participate in code reviews
Additionally, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Must have completed your Sophomore or Junior year of a four-year bachelor’s program in Computer Science or an Engineering field
Software coding/engineering experience
US Person
Knowledgeable in Python and JavaScript coding languages
Understanding of software development frameworks
Understanding of Large Language Models (LLM)
Enjoys debugging
Ability to work with a team
A genuine desire to learn and innovate
Currently in junior or senior year for a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
