Student Engagement Intern 


  • Location: Remote USA 
  • Duration: Academic year 2026-27 (starting mid-July 2026), with potential to extend
  • Schedule: 20 hours per week, flexible 
  • Compensation: $12-$15/hour 
  • Employment Type: Part-time, non-exempt

The IFSA Student Engagement Intern is a part time, nonexempt internship designed to take place during the academic year (with the potential to extend into the summer). This position executes a wide range of administrative, creative, and student-facing tasks to support the application cycle and promote IFSA programs. The Intern maintains contact with prospective and current student applicants, records accurate data, and assists with the overall goal of increasing student applications and enrollment and preparing students for departure. While these roles may be performed remotely, engagement on the intern’s home university campus or at a nearby campus may be requested on occasion.

Responsibilities 


  • Gain and maintain a deep understanding of the IFSA brand, mission, and portfolio of over 100 study abroad programs around the world. 
  • Under the guidance of Enrollment Counselors, learn about and assist with the application cycle for IFSA programs, completing a wide range of admissions functions, such as preparing and submitting student applications to host universities, processing transcripts, and reviewing course selections.
  • Correspond with prospective and current student applicants via phone and video calls, emails, and texts to assist with starting or navigating through the application process.
  • Work as a team to further enhance IFSA’s communication and outreach efforts to applicants.
  • Keep detailed correspondence records and measurable data in Salesforce, IFSA’s student information system. Prepare reports from this information as needed. 
  • Express the benefits of your time abroad and the positive impacts on your personal, professional, and academic goals in your communication with potential and current IFSA applicants. 
  • Assist enrolled students as they prepare for departure by following up on key tasks and forms, answering questions and supporting the distribution of student communications.
  • Help develop content for communication campaigns or other student-facing platforms (social media, website, etc.).
  • Create graphics to support advising within each Enrollment Counselor’s portfolio pertaining to important program information such as housing, course registration, and areas of study. 
  • Cultivate and model practices and behaviors that reflect IFSA’s organizational commitments of inclusive excellence, intercultural agility, individualized learning, and enduring impact.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and the IFSA Student Engagement team, connecting students with IFSA Enrollment Counselors and resources to further their journey abroad.

 

General Requirements, Education and Work Experience 

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student
  • Experience interacting with cultures different than your own is required.
  • IFSA Alumni are strongly preferred. Personal international experience (either through personal travel, work travel, or study abroad) isa must.
  • Contagious enthusiasm for IFSA’s mission, vision, and commitments.
  • Success in working independently, being proactive, launching a new initiative, and setting priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders from diverse communities and cultures
  • An understanding of U.S. college students and what drives and interests them.
  • Sales and customer service oriented.
  • Ability to relate to and support students with diverse lived experiences including students of color, students with mental and physical disabilities, first-generation college students, and LGBTQIA+ students
  • Proficiency in MicrosoftWord and Excel
  • Experience in Salesforce is helpful, but not required
  • Authorized to work in the USA; physically located in the USA for the duration of the internship

 

Physical & Work Environment 

    • There may be the possibility of optional attendance at in-person events such as study abroad fairs and info sessions, sometimes requiring lifting boxes and setting up a booth.
    • Working on a computer to complete usual office tasks such as typing, phone calls, video calls, emailing.
    • Remote position. IFSA will provide a laptop from which to work.
