As a Shop Technician Intern with DES, you will be given the opportunity to develop professional skills while putting your education and training into practice. With the support of our team of engineers and technicians, you will have access to mentors at all levels.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively engage with engineering and shop team members to apply basic principles to project work and designs.
- Prioritize safe workplace practices while working directly with engineers, CAD designers, and prototype technicians.
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of tooling and shop equipment including, but not limited to, welders, mills, lathes, lifts, heavy equipment, press brakes, and more.
- Manage applicable project work and shop tasks to maximize efficiency and ensure job delivery on time, with full commitment to quality.
- Work collaboratively with technicians, designers, engineers, and outside resources to solve complex problems.
- Contribute to team effort by performing other assigned duties as needed.
- Participate in the shop area and equipment maintenance to keep the area clean, orderly, and safe.
Desired Skills:
- Strong communication skills, organizational and time management, and good judgement.
- General knowledge of a shop environment and safely working around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Entry level experience in grinding, welding, reading blueprints, and knowledge of weld symbols is preferred.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- One to four (1-4) years of experience with one or more types of fabrication and machine tooling used in shaping metal or nonmetallic material.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Actively pursuing a technical or machine-tool related training program or equivalent certification.
