GENERAL SUMMARY

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.   Duties and performance expectations will be adjusted to reflect successful completion of clinical competencies as evidenced by CMA program progression and competency evaluation at the departmental level. All clinical duties performed by the Medical Assistant Intern must be under the supervision of a licensed/credentialed staff member.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required

• Enrolled in an accredited medical assistant program (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, AMCA) required

Licensure:

• BLS within 90 days of hire required

• Successful completion of Credentialed Medical Assistant exam within 90 days of program completion required

Experience:

• Work and/or educational experience that promoted group/team working relations preferred

 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 

1. Makes phone calls for patient referrals and prescription requests and documents into the patients’ charts.

2. Observes patient examinations, procedures, venipuncture, and other diagnostic testing.

3. Assists medical practice clinical staff with collection and documentation of patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, and past medical history.

4.  Assists with ensuring that clinical supplies are properly stocked.

5. Reviews charts for next day’s appointments and pulls lab results, etc. as necessary.

6. Assists with answering phones, scheduling appointments and scanning.

7. Assists with care of the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to meet the health care needs of the patient.

8. Performs pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transports instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.

9. Cross-trained to perform MOA duties.

10. Follows vaccine and medication management policy

11. Follows medical record documentation procedure as detailed in the MCF Documentation Assistant policy.

12. Present during the provider’s performance of a clinical service and documents (on behalf of the provider) everything said during the course of the service when appropriate.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.
