Position Summary: The Co op for Machine Products Engineering (MPE) is an entry level engineering position. The Co op is responsible for either new product engineering or design engineering and may rotate across the portfolio to gain exposure and experience depending on tenure and availability of work. The Co op is guided by a more senior engineer and assigned projects will inherently be limited in scope to allow the co op to experience both design and build stages. This could alternatively be done through concurrent work on multiple projects. Areas of focus may include new product development, mechanical, manufacturing, application engineering and testing.
Job Responsibilities:
New Product Engineering:
Concept design solutions.
Analysis and application of engineering principles to concepts.
Technical performance of the resultant machine/design.
Compliance with appropriate safety protocols.
Design Engineering:
CAD geometry creation and modification.
Creation and compliance with design standards.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, define and implement solutions that prevent recurrence of the problem.
Interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Comprehend and effectively communicate verbally and in writing to specific audiences while using good judgement regarding appropriateness of communications.
Detail oriented with the ability to communicate technical information effectively with other functional engineering areas and other downstream departments within GWR.
Work collaboratively in a team environment, interact in a positive manner with customers and co-workers.
Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and deliver results.
Willing to cross train and learn.
New Product Development
CAD Skills:
Solid Model Creation: model simple prismatic and rotational shapes from examples or from scratch, create family tables, download 3D images and use them appropriately, use standard UDF's appropriately.
CAD Data Manipulation: use proper protocol for checking items in and out.
Business System Skill:
Time entry.
Existing component research and identification.
Sales Order BOM: initiate a Sales Order BOM change with proper effectivity.
Machine and Assembly History: research a machine sales order with serial number, sales order number, or network number.
Machine Design
Component Design: use standards books to apply proper fits, material selection and feature representation.
System Design: develop ETO's based on similar designs, use design reviews and FMEA's as needed, designs consist of static assemblies
Component/Assembly Identification: review assemblies for completeness and appropriateness under direction.
Detailing - GD&T and Tolerancing:
GD&T and Tolerancing Applications: Apply simple GD&T using examples or under instruction, use standards book to apply proper fits.
Preferred Education/Training/Experience:
3+ years of BS degree completion
Prior Co op experience a plus
