Job Description

In partnership with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District and under direct supervision, provides High School juniors and seniors with valuable work experience at the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. The program provides an opportunity for students to explore future career possibilities as well as gain real-work work experience.

This is a part-time, internship working out of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office located at 12220 Fillmore Street, West Olive, MI. An intern in this position will work approximately 10 hours per week, with scheduling around their school schedule. 

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs assigned functions specific to the operational needs of the operating department where the work-based learned is performed.
  • Performs various office clerical functions, including answering phones, greeting the public, receiving and distributing files, typing and scanning documents.
  • Perform specific tasks under the guidance of staff to support program activities in conjunction with curriculum needs stated by the ISD.
  • Provide general information regarding programs and services to the public.
  • Maintains the work area in a neat, clean and safe condition.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience

  • Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Must be a current high school student at the junior or senior level.
  • Computer literacy, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database management and internet search applications software.
  • Ability to interact positively and constructively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and members of the general public with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Additional Requirements and Information

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School junior or senior through the OAISD work-based learning program. Valid Michigan driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audiological appliances and devices to increase mobility.  

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal office environment.
