As one of the largest institutional investors in the Unted States, The Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) is responsible for strategically managing a $11 billion portfolio that helps support the retirement security of Missouri's local government workers.  Leveraging a multi-asset investment strategy, including public and private equity, public fixed income, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, natural resources and hedge funds, LAGERS strives to deliver steady, long-tern returns that help Missouri's local government employers provide secure, financially sustainable retirement benefit for their employees.

The LAGERS paid investment internship program is an immersive, hands-on experience for intellectually curious and analytically driven students interested in financial investment, risk, and strategy. You will gain deep exposure to market research, financial modeling, and quantitative analysis, supporting real-world investment decisions and due diligence. Working directly with LAGERS investment team, you will sharpen your problem-solving skills and develop a strong awareness of market trends across various asset classes. What you will do:
  • Research and Analysis: Conducts analysis of investment strategies and vehicles across equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity, and alternative investments.
  • Due Diligence: Supports the IMR team in conducting qualitative and quantitative due diligence on potential investment opportunities.
  • Portfolio Management Support: Assists in monitoring the performance of existing investments, updating and maintaining databases, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity for effective decision-making.
  • Financial Modeling: Updates existing financial models and communicates with the investment team the results.
  • Reporting: Prepares reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders, summarizing research findings, investment strategies, and performance metrics.
  • Market Monitoring: Stays updated on market trends and economic developments that could impact the fund's investments.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with the investment team to support the implementation of investment strategies.

Location: LAGERS office is in Jefferson City, MO, a convenient 30-minute drive from Columbia or 20-minute drive from Fulton.
Salary:  $25.00 per hour
