Clinical Intern or Practicum Student Opportunity

Division: Clinical 
 
Reports To: Clinical Manager or assigned internship coordinator
 
Degree Program:  Master’s program in psychology, social work, counseling, marital and family, art therapy, or 
                                other applied behavior science degree. 
Exempt Status: N/A – unpaid internship
 
Description of duties and expectations of the student during the internship:
 
Clinical Services
  • Provides direct clinical counseling services to outpatient therapy clients,  Clinical services provided by the student will including assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy and support/psychoeducation groups
Case Coordination
  • Provides treatment planning, and may help provide case management and follow-up of cases;
  • Provides support calls and networks with other agencies;
  • Represents the agency at legal proceedings and responds to subpoenas;
  • Writes reports as requested;
  • Makes outside referrals for additional services as appropriate;
  • Maintains client files according to agency documentation standards;
Supervision and Training
  • Participates in peer supervision;
  • Participates in case staffings for clients
  • Participates in weekly supervision with the clinical manager or intern supervisor to discuss cases and create a plan for ways to mitigate vicarious trauma;
  • Participates in team specific group meetings and group supervision;
  • Participates in professional development and training
Hours and Setting
  • Internship takes place at the assigned Synergy program and interns are assigned an individual supervisor for onsite supervision, guidance, and support.
  • Services are provided Monday-Friday, and must have a staff clinician available for support during any clinical service the Intern provides to clients.
  • Intern must be willing to develop and keep a schedule that will allow for the needs of Synergy programs and our clients’ needs.
  • Interns are expected to be punctual and consistent in their attendance. Interns are expected to treat their internship as if it were a job.

  • Is willing to learn and work on “self-of-the-therapist” issues with supervisors and peers
  • Is willing to ask for help when unsure of next steps and will accept provided feedback so that Intern can grow and improve clinical and professional skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Enrollment in a Master’s program in psychology, social work, counseling, marital and family, art therapy, or other applied behavior science degree. Prior clinical experience strongly preferred.
