Position Description: Mechanical Engineer Intern 

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will help assist the customer project team in 

developing our power distribution equipment designs. The summer engineering intern 

program with LayerZero is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to 

daily engineering operations, project management, cross-functional teamwork, and 

research and development. 

Requirements

 

Primary Duties: 

3D Modeling & CAD Development 

  • Create and update detailed 3D part models and assemblies for power distribution systems using Siemens Solid Edge. 

Sheet Metal Design 

  • Design and refine sheet-metal enclosures, applying proper material thickness, bend allowances, and manufacturing requirements such as punching, forming, and welding. 

Drafting & Engineering Documentation 

  • Produce accurate 2D technical drawings, including flat patterns, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assembly documentation to support manufacturing and engineering reviews. 

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) 

  • Work closely with production teams to adjust and optimize mechanical designs for improved manufacturability, reduced cost, and simplified assembly processes. 

Standardization & CAD Management 

  • Maintain organized CAD data and follow internal modeling standards to ensure consistency, quality, and efficient revision control across projects. 

Education: 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 

Experience & Skills: 

  • Experience with 3-D CAD tools (SolidEdge preferred)  
  • Sheet Metal design 
  • Knowledge of basic electrical circuits  
  • Solid understanding or experience with metal forming operations  
  • Coursework or experience with electromechanical design

Salary Description
$20- $25 per hour
