Summary

The Engineering Intern supports the Engineering and Operations teams by assisting with testing, documentation, drawings, engineering changes, and improvement projects. This internship is designed for college students pursuing an engineering-related degree who are seeking hands-on experience in a manufacturing and fabrication environment. The role provides practical exposure to engineering processes, cross-functional collaboration, and real-world applications of classroom learning.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering staff with assigned projects related to product design, fabrication, manufacturing support, testing, or process improvement.
  • Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), test reports, and product specifications.
  • Assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), including documentation updates and change tracking.
  • Create or modify SolidWorks models and drawings under the guidance of engineering staff.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and physical engineering files.
  • Collect data and assist with basic analysis using Microsoft Excel.
  • Participate in shop floor walk-throughs to gain exposure to manufacturing and fabrication processes.
  • Support continuous improvement, standardization, or cost-reduction initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned to support department objectives.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Strong desire to learn and gain hands-on engineering experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of NI FlexLogger and/or LabView.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (preferred).
  • Strong appreciation and compliance with HS&E policies.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physically able-bodied, capable of manual lifting 45 lbs.
  • Good hand-eye coordination – capable of precision manual work

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering Technology
    • Or a closely related engineering or technical discipline

Experience

  • Entry-level internship; no prior professional experience required.
  • Relevant coursework, academic projects, co-ops, internships, familiarity with electrical systems, or hands-on manufacturing experience is a plus.
