Overview

LMI is seeking a Health Data & Operations Intern to support a portfolio of health-focused engagements. The intern will join a team delivering policy, operational, and analytical support to HHS, specifically the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The primary focus will be supporting data analysis and program monitoring activities to help assess compliance with federal regulations, sub-regulatory guidance, and program requirements. This role will not involve direct policy drafting or influencing government policy decisions.

Responsibilities

Success in this role requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated interest in healthcare policy and data.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Support analysis of healthcare and compliance data from multiple sources using Excel or other analytical tools
  • Assist in identifying trends, anomalies, and insights to support program monitoring and oversight
  • Contribute to the development of client deliverables including reports, briefings, and data summaries
  • Help maintain and improve data tracking tools, dashboards, and reporting processes
  • Support documentation of analytic methodologies and standard operating procedures
  • Assist in reviewing program materials and validating submitted data for completeness and accuracy
  • Collaborate with team members to solve problems and improve processes
  • Participate in internal and client-facing meetings and contribute to discussions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, health policy, public policy, data analytics, business, or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with the broader Microsoft Office suite
  • Foundational experience with data analysis (academic or internship experience acceptable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Desired Skills & Background

  • Exposure to data tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar
  • Interest in federal healthcare programs (e.g., CMS, Medicare, Medicaid)
  • Experience working with large datasets or performing quantitative analysis
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, systems, and policy concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments
