The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.00, and may increase based on major and class standing.
Assists with various tasks and responsibilities aimed at supporting the department's operations and gaining practical experience in the field. Here are some key roles and responsibilities:
• Assist with filing, data entry, and the maintenance of records and documentation.
• Participate in training sessions, drills, and other learning activities to gain firsthand knowledge of firefighting techniques and safety protocols.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of training equipment and materials.
• Observe and support senior firefighters during training exercises.
• Support fire safety education programs by helping to deliver presentations to stakeholders.
• Distribute educational materials such as brochures, flyers, and safety guides.
• Aid in the routine inspection and maintenance of firefighting equipment and vehicles.
• Help ensure that tools, gear, and apparatus are clean, properly stored, and in good working condition.
• Participate in the upkeep of fire station facilities, including cleaning and organizing common areas.
• Accompany experienced firefighters and observe emergency response operations in a non-participatory role, under strict supervision and safety guidelines.
• Take detailed notes on procedures and actions during emergency responses to enhance learning.
• Assist with post-incident reviews and debriefings, helping to document and understand the incident's dynamics and outcomes.
• Engage in continuous learning through participation in seminars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities provided by the fire department.
• Network with fire department personnel to gain insights into career paths and professional experiences in firefighting and emergency services.• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant educational program, such as fire science, emergency management, public safety, or a related field.
• Completion of basic first aid and or CPR course.
• Completion of basic firefighting course.
• Prior experience within emergency services.
• Physically able to handle the demands of potential training and related activities.Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Must be a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university, or within one year after finishing a degree program.
Must have completed freshman year of college.
