The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.00, and may increase based on major and class standing.
An Emergency Management Intern typically assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of emergency management programs and procedures. Key duties and responsibilities include:
1. Assisting in Emergency Preparedness Plans: Aiding in the development, review, and update of emergency preparedness plans and procedures.
2. Research and Data Analysis: Conducting research on best practices, historical disaster data, and emerging trends in emergency management. Analyzing data to support the development of new strategies and improvement of existing plans.
3. Training and Exercises: Participating in the planning and execution of emergency drills, training sessions, and simulations.
4. Administrative Support: Providing administrative support such as maintaining records, preparing reports, managing communication channels, and organizing meetings and events related to emergency management programs.
5. Continuous Improvement: Continuously seeking opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of emergency management programs through feedback, lessons learned, and innovative solutions.
6. Documentation and Reporting: Preparing and maintaining detailed records, reports, and documentation of all activities related to emergency management1. Educational Background:
o Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Public Safety, or a related field.
2. Relevant Coursework:
o Completion of courses in emergency management, disaster preparedness, risk assessment, or public safety.
3. Certifications:
o Certifications such as FEMA’s Incident Command System (ICS) certifications (e.g., ICS-100, ICS-200), CPR, First Aid, or other relevant emergency response certifications.
4. Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
o Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and emergency management software.
5. Experience:
o Previous internship experience in emergency management, public safety, or government agencies is a plus.
o Volunteer experience with emergency response or disaster relief organizations.
