Program Overview

The Business Relationship Internship is a structured, 10-week summer program designed to provide hands-on exposure to ICCU’s business banking model, sales approach, and member relationship strategy. The intern will be embedded with the External Business Relationship Officer (BRO) team and supported by a dedicated mentor to guide development, provide coaching, and ensure alignment with team priorities. This role blends learning and contribution; providing meaningful development for the intern while supporting internal operations, member relationships, and business development efforts.

Primary Function

Support the Business Relationship team in delivering a consistent, high-quality member experience by assisting with business account setup and maintenance, product support, operational processes, and early-stage sales activities. The intern will gain exposure to key business services including ACH Origination, Remote Deposit Capture, Merchant Services, and online banking, while developing foundational sales, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

Member & Operational Support

  • Assist with business service setup, including ACH Origination, Remote Deposit Capture, wires, and online banking
  • Support member and branch inquiries related to business accounts, documentation, and system configuration
  • Assist with new account audits and follow-up on exceptions in partnership with branches
  • Help ensure accuracy of account setup, documentation, and fee application

Sales & Relationship Support

  • Support External BROs with prospect research, business profiling, and pipeline preparation
  • Assist with preparation of business proposals and relationship materials
  • Participate in outreach preparation, tracking, and follow-up activities supporting member retention efforts
  • Gain exposure to discovery conversations, relationship development, and networking opportunities

Training, Process Improvement & Insights

  • Review procedures, job aids, and training materials to identify clarity gaps or inefficiencies
  • Provide a new-user perspective to support process improvement and consistency across teams
  • Assist with updates to policies, procedures, and training documentation
  • Observe workflows and identify opportunities for efficiency or simplification

Learning & Development Participation

  • Actively participate in structured training, including:
    • ICCU culture, strategy, and talent philosophy
    • Sales and service framework (rapport, discovery, recommendation, close)
    • Business products and solutions (feature → benefit → impact)
  • Shadow BROs, Treasury Management, Merchant Services, and other partner teams
  • Participate in member visits, outreach, and real-world application opportunities with mentor guidance
  • Complete assigned deliverables, including product summaries, prospect profiles, and a final capstone project

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field preferred)
  • Strong interest in business banking, sales, and relationship management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to build relationships and interact professionally with members and internal partners
